WHY
The Danube Arena in Budapest, Hungary, stands as a true testament to aquatic excellence. Constructed for the 2017 FINA (World Aquatics) World Championships, this venue was originally intended to be the home of the World Aquatics Championships in 2021. However, when the initial host for the 2017 championships, Guadalajara, withdrew, Budapest rose to the occasion. The championships saw the participation of 245 divers from 43 nations. This aquatic powerhouse boasts two full-course swimming pools, a dedicated diving pool, and a short-course training pool.
WHAT
DiveGym's involvement in the Danube Arena dates back to 2015, as Budapest was preparing for an Olympic city bid. We collaborated with a multinational team to design and deliver this impressive facility on the banks of the Danube, which was to host the 2017 World Aquatic Championships. DiveGym played an integral role in delivering the first new dedicated dryland training facility that complied with the new FINA regulations (Now known as Word Aquatics), alongside a full Olympic-standard competition diving pool.
HOW
Our contribution extended to the design and construction phases, working closely with world-class architects and Hungarian contractors to ensure that the facility not only met but optimized FINA regulations for coaching and future use. We managed the complex logistics of shipping all the drydive equipment from the UK to Budapest, completing the installation efficiently. We provided full technical support throughout the European Games event, which was a multisport extravaganza, and even assisted in presenting the diving facility and drydive to the Paris Olympic delegation.
FUTURE
After successfully hosting the European Games, the Danube Arena continues to be a center of excellence for elite athletes in the region. It remains a vital hub for training and hosting world-class aquatic events, contributing to Budapest's legacy as a premier aquatic sports destination. DiveGym is honoured to have played a pivotal role in this remarkable project, which continues to inspire and empower athletes from Hungary and around the world.
